Derived associations in UML

I was going thru the chapter 6 class diagrams advanced concepts and am referring to page 88 figure 6-8, I could not understand what is meant by a derived association.
I understand a derived attribute could be some value which is not directly instantiated but can be evaluated from other attributes hence it is called a derived attribute, but what is derived association then??
Help please. Thanks

Derived associations represent virtual associations that can be computed from two or more fundamental associations.
Refer to Reference Manual page 255 for clear example.
