Hi all,
An hour back I have cleared the Part-1 of SCEA exam. I got 70%. I would like thank all in our Javaranch forum for the various notes, reply and links provided by them. I didn't attend any special course for this exam and my only guide is Java ranch members & my friends. Thanks once again.
Know very well about Corba, IIOP, Legacy connectivity, Applet and legacy terminal communication. Read Microsoft DNA blueprint. John's note are very helpful for the exam.
Know About Clustering & load Balancing If you want to pass Exam. And What is JMX? I got one of the option as jmx.
Time may be the deciding factor. Lengthy scenarious and more than 6 options.
I need to go now. I will be posting the details very soon.
Best luck.
regards,
Raj.

Bidyut,
There were 4/5 questions on design patters, 3/4 questions on UML. I found 10-12 questions architecture/ applet - server scenario. Legacy connectivity 4-5 questions, Firewall/ protocols - 4/5 questions, EJB - 10/12 questions [mainly when & where to use different beans, dao, & bean life cycle]. JMS - when to use and the 2 domains.
Around 10 -15 lengthy questions + exhibit button. No questions on API. All are based on concepts. John notes + Microsoft DNA blueprint helped to get idea on scalability/ availability, load balancing & RRDNS. Mainly need to know, while increasing one, the effect on others.
Legacy connectivity, one should know when to use which encapsulation technique. There is a good link provided by Anil www.cs.umu.se/~hed/java/ch32.htm
Also need to know different legacy systems & their properities [esp. the protocol which is used].
Security, one should know signed, unsigned applet/ jar files and their properties.

Exam can be easily cleared with the some amount of j2ee concepts + common sense. Design patterns based on ejb & jdbc. One should be careful in selecting the options for big scenario questions, since in my exam, I felt almost all the answers were applicable for a particular scenario. I did expect around 80% of marks and surprised seeing the print out - 70%. so, be careful in selecting the scenario.
Best wishes. Regards, Raj

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
