My condolences to the families and friends of the victims of WTC and Pentagon attack.
Thanks everyone in this group for helping me to pass the test. My special thanks to John and Jignesh, who answered all my queries. John's notes was useful for me. My feedback on the test is:
. Study design strategies for EJBs. Many of questions consisted of designing EJBs to improve performance and scalability. The design strategies chapters in Blueprints and EJB by Monson will be useful.
. I got some questions in which 'code factoring' is one of the answer choices. I don't know what this means. Can somebody please explain?
. There were 4-5 questions on scalability and maintainability. Need to know the factors that improve these two.
. The questions on Design patterns are easy. John's notes is enough for this.
. The questions on UML are also are easy. http://www.togethersoft.com/files/services/umlonlinecourse/index.html should suffice.
. Applet security faq on sun's site should be useful. There were 2 questions on this.
. Need to know what is B2B application, I don't know whether my answer was correct or not.
. Need to know about load balancing, clustering. If you can get information about how load balancer works, that would be useful.
I got 81%. I do not have any practical experience, may be that would have helped me to some extent.
Thanks.

Thanks for the wishes. I prepared for 30 calendar days, excluding weekends. Overall, I might have studied for 100 hours.

I am a new member to this forum. Congratulations for passing part-I. "Code factoring" is same as "Refactoring" and is used to improve the quality, maintainability and extensibility of existing code. Please see the following link to get more info. http://www.aw.com/cseng/titles/0-201-89542-0/vidrefact/vidrefact.html
Thanks.

Good Job !!
It seems after reading some success story about SCEA part 1 that these part doesn't require a lot of preparation ?!
You just need to be aware the different SCEA exam objectives, read the Marc cade 's Fast path tutorial( Marc Cade is a Sun Architect who is actually writing a SCEA book...soon to be publish ), john's note, ...
I have the feeling that SCJP2 required more preparation and time.
Am I right ?

Herve attia

These document has been given to people who attended the "Java Architect Conference" at JavaOne2001. Maybe I'm wrong but these document is not available from Sun Web site...
Anyway...it relates the exam objectives :
- OO concepts (UML)
- Common Architecture (scalability, maintainability, reliabilty,security...)
- Legacy connectivity ( connectors is not in the exam)
- EJB
- EJB container model
- Protocols (http, https, IIOP, JRMP)
- Applicability of J2EE (J2EE 1.2, EJB 1.1 only in the exam)
- Design Patterns
- Messaging
- Internationalization (not heavy in the exam)
- security (not heavy in the exam)
For all these topics, you can refer to http://www.x-nt.com/
Regards,
Herve Attia

I think, Blueprints will be helpful for this topic.
