I think it's more about where you want to go with your career. Do you want to become a Senior Developer, actually continue programming ... then I think the SCJD is for you. or Do you want to get into Systems Architecture? Be expert on knowing how things work on a high level but not necessarily get into coding too much ... then SCJEA is the way to go. There are benefits to both. SCJD involves some knowledge of good design and includes some areas of Java you may not have covered in your studies for the other exams ... it really is about where you want to be.
