Hi,
Finally cleared SCEA Part - I with 87%. I got 42 correct out of 48.
In all it was a good experience giving the exam.
The Good :
There were a lot of scenario questions where I spent some good amount of time understanding them. I wanted to make sure that I did'nt wanted to get a question wrong simply overlooking. The questions were based on concepts, common architectures. If you understand the 1, 2 and multi tier architecture then nothing to worry about. Design Patterns and UML were pretty much basic. A very high level of understanding is required. Monson Haefel's EJB book is enough to answer all the EJB/Container model questions. A basic understanding of HTTP, HTTPS, JRMP and IIOP should be enough. Though a lot of questions required to select appropriate protocols for the given architecture scenario. A very high level understanding of JMS should be enough. Where it can be used and how etc.
The Bad :
Dreadful Security. Some questions requires to have understanding of various firewall architectures , cryptography. I felt some question were'nt as per the objectives but it then it is highly debatable. So be prepared for it. I found atleast three questions which were ambiguous ??? The question said either 1 or 2 are correct but if you see the options there are more than that. ( And mind it .. it was'nt mentioned in the question which is "best" answer).
The Ugly :
Ummm.. I got 6 incorrect.. I could have done better to get atleast two more correct. But at the end it was a good learning experience and I am happy.
I would like to thank this newgroup for all the help and inspiration. You guys are doing a great job.I could'nt imagine giving exam without it. All the advices and support was big factor for getting me thru Part - I. I am going to a break of few days and start preparing for Part - II.
Thanx,
Anil Kahale

Hi,
Do you need to know about the implementation issues of the design patterns?

Hi,
You don't have to know the implementation issues. Knowning the consequences and the intent of the patterns are enough for the exam.
Thanx and regards,

Hi,
Read the GOF book for design patterns. It's a good book. But if you are uncomfortable with C++ examples then use the link below.. free book with all Java examples..
http://www.patterndepot.com/put/8/JavaPatterns.htm
Below are a couple of links which I found very much useful. Some of them contains some mock test too..

Hope it helps..
