i have been reading this group trying to get a grasp of what each part of the certification involves. here is what i have discovered so far, please correct me if i am wrong:
part 1 - q&a based on the sun java architect certification success guide pdf
part2 - I am not clear on what we need to do for part 2. what is part 2? what are the instructions for part 2? Do we implement a project and submit it to sun and have them run it? Do we only develop uml diagrams and submit them to sun? i have read that we should reverse engineer the petstore and use it. ???
part 3 - 4 essay questions discussing your design in part 2. are these general questions like compare/contrast, discuss a tradeoff, etc?
what part do you feel is the hardest of the 3? Is the exam going to be revised soon? if so, when?

Part I is a rousingly fun multiple guess exam whose questions follow the same sort of format as the 10 examples you see in the success guide.
Part II is a surprise! That's why we don't talk about it much. But no, Sun won't run it - you won't be submitting any code. You need to submit a class diagram, and several sequence or collaboration diagrams, and a component diagram. They count for 40%, 20%, and 40% respectively, of your score for Parts II/III.
Part III is the essay, as you say, and in my opinion, a formality to establish context and authenticity of your Part II. See my message from yesterday for my cynical take on Part III.
I believe that Part II is the most challenging. Part I seems to exist mainly to bar the unworthy from working on Part II, since Part II is the one that takes the most effort to grade, obviously.
