1. What type of firewall will you use to the validate the application protocol of a network communication?
a. SSL
b. Packet Filters
c. Stateful packet Filters
d. Proxy

According to the 3 com firewall page I think
it would be stateful packet filters..
however the answer is said to be d proxy.

Proxy is the right answer.
Proxies are build as application layer firewalls as they are aware of the protocol.
e.g. Companies generally set up web proxies so that all the internal employees can access Internet through a common point. Allows them to control and monitor the browsing of the employees.
This proxy server knows about http protocol
