I am starting part 2 assignment and was wondering
how in a design can you show the meeting of the
requirement for performance.. ie.
4 second response 80 percent of the time...
or
3 second response time 100 percent of the time..
How can you guarentee this?

Goof question. You can't be sure here right?
May be you can: use the architecture you can tune for a best possible performance.
Say, don't use CMP Entity Bean, but Stateless Session bean in conjunction with DAO and
value objects. Stateless Session bean is fastest ever, and performance of DB operations
you can tune in DAO as much as you like. So, if you do that way, you can argue that
your design might meet performance criteria if tuned properly.
