Hi,
Can someone explain to me what features of a firewall can interfere with IIOP?
I'm guessing port filtering and address filtering?
Thanks
Julia

Julia,
Firewalls have always been my weak point, but given that question I would have answer the same as you.
Firewall administrators are always reluctant to open more ports than number 80 and 443, unless you have good persuation skills and you can convince them. If you want to use IIOP you need to open more ports.
What I am not sure is if the port used by two IIOP parties to communicate with each other is configurable (and thus you can know the exact ports beforehand), or if the port IIOP used is dynamically chosed as in JRMP, thus being harder to configure the firewall.
Anyone can help?
Eduard

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
