How long should I work in the Java field before I consider going for my SCJA cert ?
I've already gotten my SCJP and SCJD and am a pretty competent programmer, but going through the posts here it seems to be taking it to the next level! Looks very challenging. What are everybody's opinions on this?

You should have experience (daywork ?!) in UML, J2EE (especially EJB, JSP, Servlet), Design Patterns, EAI, OLTP and OOD in common. I have neither SCJP nor SCWP and passed SCEA (not SCJA !!)
Hope this helps

I think you have a good memory and hard-working on Mock Exam. SCJP and SCWCD are different with SCEA. I think you can also pass SCEA Part I without experience. However, I am not sure how about SCEA part II/III. I hope you are luck.

Because of Part II & III, experience is absolutely require to complete the certification. As to how many years, it depend on the intensity of J2EE technology exposure. Dont forget the information technology exposure not related to J2EE also count. My final note is that, any professional experience may be substituted by a well-round reading plus a lot of personal hands-on practice. Good Luck!

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
