Hi Paul and Joseph,
Right now, sun has a EJB cert in beta. And EJB is a big part of SCEA(at least Part I), is there a posibility that sun will change the objective of SCEA in the near future? Or the J2EE track will become something like this
SCWCD |
EJB |
JDBC |----> SCEA
Design Pattern |
...... |

Kevin:
This is an excellent question. Yes, we understand that Sun has a EJB certification upcoming and yes EJB is big w/in SCEA part 1. Although it is conjecture, I agree w you that Sun will probably augment the objectives of SCEA in the near future? Your projected path looked good.
Unfortunately, we do not work for SUN and the SUN tech editor that our publisher provided did not share much w us.
The SCEA exam needs revamping in any event.
We are on the EAST coast. If we were on the WEST coast, we would play hockey w Scott McNealy and find out wzzzzzzzup.
THANKS for the ?; sorry for the deficient answer.
JB

Joseph,
Thanks for your reply. My biggest concern is it will only devalue the values of the certifications from SUN. How many people can tell the difference between scjd and scjp outside java community? How many people can tell the diference between scwcd, scbcd, scea inside java community? And every certification will expire in 2 years. The new EJB will definitely make lot of folks who are preparing their scea rethink their schedules.
This is really a delima, people who gets certifications intends to get more, like myself. We see people get his scwcd in a week, and we will see people pass the new ejb in three days(those who has passed scea before, and there is the 400 free vouchers promotion)... No offense, just reality. Wish I could do so as well, but the bigger question is what I really get from those certifications.
My 2 cents.

I'm not so worried about the objectives changing, but I think Sun needs to give advanced notice of WHEN it's going to change. I would hate to walk into the exam and see topics I didn't study for.

Well, it depends what you want. If you a guru of J2EE and confident enough, you don't have to take any certification. Your working history record, your design and your code would tell your value.
However, for majority of us, we do need a recognization from authorities.
