Have a basic question. It is said that Data tier is one of the tire in the multi tired applications. My question is, the database itself the tier ? or the the Statements which we write for accessing the data, the tier?

I believe the data tier is the database itself

I read many books where it was said that the data tier is a part of J2EE multi tier application, wondering how can the database be a part of J2EE tier?

Is the data tier being talked about as the entity bean or DAO tier? That is what I usually refer to as the data tier in a j2ee app...

I think Entity Beans must be representing the data tier, DAO's come under business tier.

My favorite is a chocolate cupcake with white frosting and tiny ad sprinkles.
