Hi All,
I plan to take the SCEA certification. I have been surfing to identifiy the useful books/resources for the certification. My search has narrowed down to following two books:
1.Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for J2EE Technology Study Guide by Mark Cade, Simon Roberts
2.Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for J2EE Study Guide by Paul Allen, Joseph J. Bambara
But, I am not able to decide which one is better of the two. Any inputs would be helpful.
Thanks,
Pawan.

Hi,
the Study Guide by Mark Cade, Simon Roberts is the better one, but the other is more extensive and so you can learn a lot by buying both :-)
The second one is not useful for PartII in my opinion.

Hi,
I started preparing for the SCEA and read Mark Cades Book.
What I feel is that this book just scratches the surface. It starts the discussion of a lot of topics but not in very detail.
Is this enough knowledge for Part I? Or is it better to go into detail with other books for every topic?

The Security chapter discusses a lot the Java Applet security. Is this really part of the SCEA? Is the SCEA a little bit outdated regarding this topic? I don't feel that Applets are of importance in J2EE Architectures.

Hi
Questions regarding Applets do appear on the test in Part 1 definately!
Cade's book covers sufficient material in this area - a couple of pages at most. When I taught assembly language years ago in a college setting, I used to go over the final exam a week before I gave it as a review session. Hardly anyone in the class took notice! I didn't tell them that was what I was doing... The point is The cade book is written by the authors of the Sun test. The test should be revised in the near future. There was a discussion along these lines a few months ago. So even though some of the topics are getting a bit out of date the test has not been changed yet. Wink Wink Nudge Nudge..Say no more...!!!

Mark Cade's book is very good starting point for the certification. Read this book from begining and you will understand the exam and its requirement. Cade's book also has a comprehensive list of suggested fruther readings after each topic.
Good Luck..

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
