Hello All,
I found from the forum links that quite a few of us are using Poseidon from Gentleware. I didn't know this product. I have a copy of Visio 2000 Enterprise Edition which has a plug-in for Visio.
My question is: The community Edition of Poseidon that is available free of charge, is that enough for creating and submitting the PartII of the SCEA certification? The site mentions that there are restrictions in this version of the product that prevents us from printing the UML diagrams?
Will appreciate your response.
Thanks.
Bharat

I have had some pretty bad experiences with the community edition of the Poseidon tool. It was buggy and I lost a good chunk of my work and momentum when it crashed on me. This was more than 6 months back and I don't know if the gentleware folks have fixed the problems.
On the other hand, Visio doesn't quite enforce UML conventions, and this could be risky especially when the requirements mention that your models should be UML compliant.

Thanks for your response Sridhar. What did you end-up using?

I am looking to get a license for Rational Rose. In the meantime, I am using Poseidon Professional Edition 2.x. The professional edition is way better than the community edition that I had used before.
Personally, given a choice between Visio and Poseidon, I would go with Poseidon, even if it is the community edition. I would just be careful and take frequent backups of my work.

Interestingly enough, I started using Poseidon instead of Rose a couple of days ago and I have found it much more stable than Rose. Its also extremely intuitive and provides you much better layout flexibility than Rose.
My two cents.

Hello Sridhar,
Thanks for getting back. I am not sure what to do for the UML diagram documentation that standard version of Poseidon produces automatically for you. I looked at the screen shots on Gentleware's site and they look pretty good to me. Does Rose have a similar capability now? It didn't in at least the version 2000 that I was using awhile ago? How do you think I address that if I use the community edition of the Rose?
Hello Sean,
Thanks for your suggestion. What edition of the Poseidon are you using? If you are using the community edition then how do you propose to get around this issue?
Regards.

Hi Bharat,
I don't know if Rose has that capability. I don't see this as a big problem as I intend to generate my own HTML file, given the fact that there not many pieces to put together.

But guys I am not very happy with the customer support. Recently Gentleware came up with a promotion giving the license of Poseidon Professional Edition free for 4 months. Because of some proble it always says my license is expired.
I got one initial response from Gentleware asking about the screenshot but now they not even bother to respond to my mails.
If that's the way they treat customers I will never recommend any one Gentleware products.
