Hi All I have zoomed on 2 certification books in particular 1) Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for J2EE Study Guide by Paul Allen & Joseph Bambara 2) Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for J2EE Technology Study Guide by Mark Cade & Simon Roberts Which one of the is a better SCEA certification guide Rgrds
If you could choose only one book, I would sugest Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for J2EE Technology Study Guide by Mark Cade & Simon Roberts. I know i lot of people that studied by this book and appreciated it very much.
They are both good books. Cade gives people a good overview on J2EE application architecture. However, people will unlikely pass the Part 1 without reading the Paul Allen book back and for multiple times unless they are experts on both EJB & JCA.

Hello Nimish, As Satish is pointing out, both books are good to have. I passed my SCEA Part 1 using both the books. The Cade and Simon book is really a very good summarization of the topics that you need to know, but no more. Whereas the Allen and Bambara text actually goes into the details of those topics. I found it quite useful, especially for the Design Patterns as they give quite simple but effective code examples of each pattern. Also, the coverage on JMS Messaging is quite effective as well. I found both text complimenting each other quite nicely. You may have to do some outside reading as well. Check out the Security related papers that Andrew has compiled on this site, I found them quite useful in understanding Security. My 2 cents. Regards. Bharat
Hi Nimish I've bought the two books for my preparation, and I found the Allen/Bambara one pretty useless. I really regret having bought this book. I think it is just an assembly of disparate technical articles about J2EE. Moreover it is not very helpfull for the assignment: the book example is very far from what is asked in the real exam (there's even no component diagram, which could be very helpfull). I think it is better to invest your money in a good EJB book. On the contrary, the Cade book is a must have (even if it is a summary: you'll have to dig into the different topics of the book) That was my two cents Regards Bob ---------- SCJP 1.4, SCEA, PMP [ March 12, 2004: Message edited by: Bob Wood ]
Allen/Bambara book is too long and costs you long time to go through than needed. Cade's book is at least better in size. The chapter on PartII is a bonus in Cade's book. For part I test, both books are not as good as some free pages you can find in the Internet. So for the sake of money and time, buy the Cade's book.
