Hi:
My computer is infected by a kind of virius.
This is happened to me four- five times already.
Everytime I had to completely re-install my computer.
It is a kind of outlook express mail message file, named "desktop" and "sample". After the computer is infected, they duplicates itself to everypath quickly and computer began to behaviour wieldly (getting slow).
MY friend told me the virius came from the web site, which was infected by these virius. The mainly web site I was on today is
javaranch.I am reluctant to believe javaranch is
the souce of the virius, because I like it very much.
Anybody here is infected by the "desktop" and "sample" virius?
or knows what are they? any anti-virius software exist?
Thank u in advance!

First, this should be discussed in the JavaRanch Forum.
Now, on to the virus itself. Yes there are three virus on the McAfee that could be what you discribe. The only one that can be distributed by WebPage has a China flag image. One other main characteristic of infection from Webpage is that the all the servers run on Win platform, JavaRanch is on Linux.
The most likely way you where infected was through email.
There are quite a few good Virus protection Software packages out there. McAfee, Norton, Network Associates. Another real good way to protect yourself is to use a service such as Hotmail or Yahoo which will scan for and prevent you from downloading most virus's

I have Norton 2002 and I have never been infected by a virus. I also NEVER open e-mail attachments unless the person who sent it has told me that they are sending an attachment. Even then, I always scan it for viruses first. I also keep my virus software up-to-date.

I've never seen that virus and I use several computers throughout the day in various locations and am at javaranch at least and hour a day (usually more).

Nope, no virus. I use 3 different computers throughout the week to access JavaRanch. WinNT, Win95 and Win98. None of them has had any virus problems and I am on at least an hour a day.
