How are external system dependencies shown in class diagram? If I have a class which has dependencies with some part of the external system, how is that dependency shown?

thanks,
parag

Best shown using subsystems.
You would model the sub systems using the package notation and link them to your class diagram using dependency links.

Subsystems have no place in class diagram....as per Cade's diagram, Component diagram is the best place to represent them.

I agree that subsystems have no place in class diagrams and preferably u dont want to use them but if u are wanting to show sub systems u show them as packages.
FYI . .I got this info from a SCEA post that subsystems and classes can coexist on a class diagram which has depedencies to an external system.
