Can fast lane reader pattern be implemented using a SLSB going to DAO..
Or does fast lane reader mean direct access of DB from the JSP.
Thanks

Yes fastlane reader can be implemented from SLSB to DAO.

Here are two ways to implement it:

(a) SessionFacade (SLSB) -> SearchAppService (POJO)-> SearchAppServiceDAO (POJO)

OR

(b) SearchAppService (SLSB) -> SearchAppServiceDAO (POJO)

Thanks Deepak. Your replies are very helpful(always )

I had tried SLSB-->SLSB(Search Manager)-->DAO but I guess it is easier to replace it with a POJO since SLSB doesnt really give me any benefit).
Thanks

Yes if you implement SearchManager as a POJO then it becomes a real light weight class. It does not need any container provided capabilities as it is being front ended by a SLSB (SessionFacade)

Your SearchManager now is in lines with ApplicationService design pattern, which one of the new j2ee design patterns from Core J2EE 2nd edition.
