hi guys,

since i didnt managed to do what i wanted with poseidon, i downloaded JUDE to see if it could compete with $$ other softwares.

Well yes it can (for the type of assignement we have ...)

but i have two questions :

1/ in a component diagram, how can i draw SUBSYSTEM? i dont see anything like a package in which we could add a stereotype <<subsystem>>

2/ in a sequence diagram, how can we draw ACTORS ? i dont see them

thanks for helping me. i know some of you used JUDE ofr part II. i dont want to seek another drawing tool

I don't see either a way to draw packages within a component diagram. There is an icon there called Rect and by using two of them I managed to draw something that resembles a package symbol. The same can probably be done with the classifier and artifact symbols.

It's interesting to note that my Jude version 1.3 doesn't support at all the package diagram.

2/ in a sequence diagram, how can we draw ACTORS ? i dont see them

Right, I tried to cut the actor symbol and paste it in the sequence diagram no luck. I did manage to paste it on a word document. So it might be possible to assemble the drawing in another tool, such as Word, Paint, etc. Obviously, not recommended but possible.

Hi!

I used Jude, and for both cases I used what the software had had: for the sequence diagram I represented the actor using an object, descrbing it just as if it was the actor symbol. In the component diagram, I packaged components inside bigger components (you can nest them).

I don't know about the component diagram (lost a few marks here, but mine had other problems, I guess), but the Sequence diagrams got full marks, so don't worry too much about this kind of detail...

Best regards,
Carlos

I'm having the same problem in the component diagram (cannot get packages), but overall Jude seems to be a great tool. So looks like we can create a bigger component to represent the tier and in the stereotype mention the tier?? (Business, EIS etc..)??

Another Jude question: Is it possible to show general descriptions between objects in a sequence diagram rather than specific method names?

I'm trying to keep my sequence diagrams somewhat generic instead of naming all the objects and methods in the conversation.

Also, anyone see any problems with this approach?

Abd,

Scott Ambler shows in figure #4 http://www.agilemodeling.com/artifacts/componentDiagram.htm#Figure4Implementing a component which contains individual classes. We can create, as you said, a component which holds other components.

Another Jude question:

1. Using JUDE's tool to get an image export as JPG makes the diagram lose its clarity. How is everyone actually getting the diagrams onto HTML for the assignment?

Thanks

Hi,
I have no problems with the JPG exports of Jude.

Another question: In which case do you add a return message in your sequece diags?
