About me, I have failed 4 certification till now including SCJP.. now I am feeling very hard to give SCJP once again... but can't give other Sun exams without SCJP..except SCEA.. should I try for SCEA... or should I go for SCJP without caring about score... and then SCJD or SCWCD or SCBCD...

Give SCJP another chance. SCEA may not require you to have done the SCJP, but it certainly presumes that you have at least that level of experience and knowledge.

Rathi,
Why don't you start with SCJA. This is even easier than SCJP. Once you pass this exam you will get some energy and confidence. After that you can go for SCJP.
Going for directly SCEA may be a risky thing. However, it's not impossible.
But the proper series for you will be SCJA -SCJP -SCWCD -SCBCD and then SCEA.

Wish you good luck.

Thanks everybody.. I will not go for SCEA... I don't want to fail one more exam ..

I am sure that I can clear SCJP but not confident about score.. company is paying for certification... don't enjoy when I solve mock or read material of SCJP.. should I give it without caring about score...

Thanks.

Hi Rathi,

I don't know what books you did read to prepare but it makes difference what books you read for SCJP.

I could advice some titles,

A programmers guide to java certification from Mughal and Rasmussen is really good and extensive.

Also the head first Java book from Bates and Sierra will help a lot.

Further there the sit of Dan Chisholm gives questions which are more difficult than the SCJP exam I think

Success!

Hi Rathi,

don't be discouraged. I can see that you tried several exams within a short time frame. You should probably focus on SCJP first and study the material until you are fully confident.

SCJP 5 Beta was a killer exam, 5.5 hours and not much preparation material out there - you probably would be fine with the 1.4 exam and build your confidence slowly by passing that one first.

As in daily software development, usually less is more - good luck

Either way you should take any practice exams you can find before attempting the actual exam. Once you can pass most of the practice exams available then you are ready to take the exam.

The SCJP has many sources of free or cheap exam questions on the internet. I really enjoyed the question of the day(I forget from where). Every day a question was emailed to me, I answer it as soon as I arrived at work. Easy quick painless, no 2 hour committment. I really hate the sybex books(black book), I was suckered twice into buying them.

SCEA - Granted you don't need to "Know" java to pass the SCEA, but many of the questions rely on information only gained through the use of java.

Thanks a lot everybody.
Now I will go for SCJP with complete preparation, whether it takes 4-5 months.
Thanks again.
