Does it include a modeling component? Since you don't have to write code for SCEA assignment, the most useful tool will be one that has some UML diagram capabilities, and allows exporting them as GIF/JPGs.
It seems to include a UML compliant modeling tool, from my own glance at their flash preview - I might actually have to take a look at it for real use in the office. (Granted, I used Jude and Posidon for UML when I did the exam, but this looks like it might be a more interesting and more integrated environment.)
This is an IDE for JSF/JSP development. And it is free that is fine. I could not find a way to model anything in UML.
I suggest Together Architect(TA) eval for 30 days. ( if you have at least 512MB). I really liked this tool particularly after using "Together Control Center" which was very bad.
Or trust Omando for Eclipse or Poseidon For UML Community Edition.
I just downloaded Together. It did say it is a trial but did not tell me how long it is. I don't think I can finish the assignment in 30 days. Any idea on its price?
All, I evaluated the "Java Studio Enterprise 8". It has a real good UML tool. I would have used this if this was available free when I started my assignment.
I recommend this because 1) It's free 2) It is more productive than the pure UML tools. It helps apply patterns - both GoF and EJB in a very simple way. (of course, one must have a big picture and identify the problems for which we want to apply patterns) 3) It is quite fast ( more responsive than Together Architect and of couse Rational Architect which is very slow to do the same task on the same PC).
If one is not emotionally bonded with Eclipse -Sun Studio is a very good free alternative. (built on Netbeans platform)
After I started to create some diagramms I noticed a problem in class diagramm - class attributes are displayed like in Java "public int y" not in UML standard "+ y : int"
so... perhaps it's better not to use SUN Studio...

oh dear. NOT using a sun product to crack a sun cert, because of lack of conformity ?? sounds little funny (read: ridiculous), huh ?
can anyone clarify this ? is there an authority to ask ? i played with the idea of using this stuff, too (as i do not have the necessary monetary backing to order some rational software...)
Very funny...You guys are right. It is almost UML but not UML :-)) Or may be we are missing something. The help doesnt say much.
To give this product it's due credit, I used to create a simple web app and it worked fine. I could create a web framework, Junit and deploy in < 1/2 day.
