Hi All,
How good is the SCEA study guide by Paul Allen and Joseph Bambara? Do they cover all the exam objectives and is it sufficient to read only this book for the exam?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi B Sathish,

I have bought this book to study for part I, but I didn't like it.
I think it is too confuse and prolix.
I am really sure that only this book is not sufficient to pass.
You should get the Cade's book. This is a reference guide, but you have to read some other books and articles in order to cover all exam objectives.
I recomend reading at least two books:
UML Distiled - Martin Fowler
Design Patterns - Gamma et al.

Curiously, people either like the book alot (many emails and posts of those who passed using only the SCEA) or others who did not like it at all.
An observation: typically those who did not like the book had difficulty with the English language (e.g., see the poor sentence structure in the post above)

Moreover:
re Sun J2EE Architect Certification

The SCEA J2EE certification goes well beyond just knowledge of EJBs. I'm starting to review for the exam as well and so far the best source I've found is the J2EE Sun Certified Enterprise Architect Study Guide by Paul Allen and Joseph Bambara. Major focus on Design Patterns, architecture best practices, messaging, security and of course EJBs.

Joseph,
One of the main reasons why people do not like your book is that the book says that the exam covers J2EE 1.3. People think that if the authors do not even know the version they are supposed to write on, the book is probably not worth reading. Also other complaints are dry lecture-like style that is not stimulating enough to read and learn. I tried reading a chapter and I too felt the same way and hence I decided not to read it.

Hope you'll take this criticism constructively.
