I recently read that the architect exam is undergoing revision to J2EE 1.4. When is the revised exam expected to be available?

If the new exam comes, will they keep this exam around along with the new one or will they totally scrap out this one?

I am planning to start preparations, I believe it could take 5-6 months for me for part 1 itself and then probably 3 - 4 months for part 2 and 3. I am concerned about the exam getting removed abruptly in the middle of my preparation. If that could happen, I had rather wait for the new version.

Please advice.

Thanks

If I had a nickel for every time someone asked this..

There's no word yet on when a new exam can be expected.

Hey Theodore,
I'll send you a check for a nickel if you answer this question

How long do you think Sun will retain the old exam after the new one comes?

Thanks

No idea, honestly, since I don't work for Sun Microsystems. I wouldn't try to put words in their mouth on the matter.

However, a glance at Prometric's registration site shows that you can still actually register for the J2SE certification exam for 1.2. (I'll assume that means you can still take it as well, and that it's not just a matter of Prometric offering opportunites for "dead" exams, since Sun still shows 1.2's exam on their site as well.) So my guess based on this is that they'll keep the exam around until they perceive no further demand for the current version, or at least for a good long while.

I think a lot will probably depend on how they plan to transition to a new test if/when they offer one. As far as any of us can see, the only thing that would require 'changing' is the Part I test - the only portion that is version-specific - since you can use any version for Part II/III, so I wouldn't worry about it going away.
