As more and more JavaRanchers pass the SCJP there seems to be more of an interest in the JCert Level 2 and 3 certifications.
What do other ranchers, and in particular bartenders and sherrifs think about creating a new "Professional Certification" forum for those of us that want to follow routes other than the Sun curriculum.

I support, that might be really helpful to have a dedicated forum for this.

I mentioned this in another thread... if we put a forum up for every single certification test we would have 500 forums. I would suggest that you use one of the current forums and if the management notices that the forum is being used heavily for a particular test then they will create a new forum.

Like Thomas.
Wheres the problem? For ibm certification we can use Websphere forum. For Bea Weblogic forum and for Oracle.... Is there an Oracle forum?
Are there other important JCert certifications?
Because these JCert tests are quite product related, I dont see any problem. We just have to use the forums. At the moment there are no good discussions about for example ibm.488 (I am interested in this). But we can take over the forum. And as an aditional goodie there is Kyle Brown in that forum, who seems to know a lot of stuff.

As you say we have already had this discussion in another thread. But as I see it, the ranch already has five forums for each of the Sun certifications plus one for XML, is it too much to ask to have one forum for the other 494 cerifications.

Axel
This is what already happens, but there is a danger of each forum being entirely taken over by certification discussion. I feel this has already happened to the OO, Patterns, UML and Refactoring forum. Where do you now post if you are interested in patterns, but not the 486 exam?

In OO, Patterns, UML and Refactoring. There are 3 postings per day on average!
Perhabs the topic is not very well suited for not-exam-related questions.
If you use UML and draw some diagrams, how post them on the forum? Unfortunatedly an asci-uml standard isn't yet invented. And I think it never will be. Asci isn't a good tool for uml.
IBM-WebSphere is another story. There we can expect a lot of questions which are not exam related: Why this JNDI lookup doesn't work, I got that error: how to interpret, etc.
Why not try evolutionary solution:
What about vigorously starting to flood the forum with exam questions and if some people there complain, well then its business of the management.
Please dont go away to another forum

This has already happened, I am the one (amongst others) doing the complaining.

I will certainly not be going away. JavaRanch is a great forum and one of it's strengths is that we can have open discussions like this. People generally don't get flamed and there is respect for others viewpoints.
I have made my request and had a good opportunity to put my case, so now as you say, I will leave it up to the management to decide.

A comment like this deserves a reward
I'll start a thread in MO to get the attention of management for you. Good luck.

Exactly. We have 5 forums. Soon it will be 6 and then the BEA guys will want their own fourm and the WebSphere guys and the Oracle guys and on and on. As I said, once the moderator sees that sufficient traffic is being generated in a forum, a new forum will be created. Otherwise we end up with a dozen forums each getting 2 posts a day.

Johannes
Thank you.
Thomas
As I said in my last post I am happy to leave this up to the management to decide. But just to answer your last point IBM, BEA, and Oracle all participate in JCert, so one forum fits all.

I didn't even know there were JCert level 2 and 3 exams! I take it that these are not the SCJEA or the developer exams?
There are a lot of good points in this thread: we don't want 500 unused forums, and we want to facilitate discussion on these topics.
Maybe it's time to create an "other" forum in the "Professional Certification" category. If there gets to be a great deal of healthy discussion on one particular cert, we should create a new forum for it.
