Hi,

I am new to SCEA. What is required for the exam?

(i) J2EE design patterns or (ii) GOF design patterns or both?

Regards,
Aleena

The 23 design patterns of GOF is within the scope of SCEA

Thanks a lot for your reply...

From SCEA part 1 objectives
Section 8: Design Patterns
"Identify the design pattern associated with a specified J2EE feature"
Does this mean J2EE design patterns?

GOF design patterns are also applicable to J2EE environments. However, the features that will be used as illustrations are (mostly) J2EE scenarios. Both J2EE and GOF patterns apply.

Cheers!

The testing objectives beg to differ:

  • From a list, select the most appropriate design pattern for a given scenario. Patterns will be limited to those documented in Gamma et al. and named using the names given in that book.

  • i.e. no J2EE Patterns.
Keep in mind that the "Gang Of Four" patterns are general design patterns - J2EE patterns are largely about how the J2EE environment and technologies should be applied to solve certain problems.
Certain ubiquitous J2EE patterns that may have general applications, possibly under a different name, like the DAO may be mentioned here or there (more likely in the preparation material rather than on the actual exam). See the discussion Mark Cade's Study Guide p. 28 Q13: Benefit using DAO with BMP Entity Bean

Thanks Peer! I stand corrected. However, to address the original post, GOF design patterns are required for the exam but familiarizing with J2EE design patterns also helps

    Cheers!

So If I want to take SCEA part 1, I must know GoF patterns and J2EE patterns right?

    Thanks a lot everybody ...

GOF for part 1, Core J2EE for part 2.

    thats about it. really.

your understanding of core J2EE has to be far better than what you know of the GOF ones
Anderson gave himself the promotion. So I gave myself this tiny ad:
a bit of art, as a gift, that will fit in a stocking
