Hi,

I took my exam yesterday and passed with a result of 91%. There were a good deal of questions that could be answered from experience instead of reading from a text book, which surprised me.

I prepared with the following study material:

General:

- Marc Cade, "SCEA study guide"
- Ramu's Notes

UML:

- Martin Fowler, "UML distilled", 3rd Ed.

EJB:

- Richard Monson-Haefel, "Enterprse JavaBeans", 2nd Ed.
- Basham, Sierra&Bates, "Head First EJB"

Design Patterns:

- Gamma, Helm, Johnson, Vlissides, "Design Patterns"

I used Whizlabs 6.01 as mock exam software. During practicing with that, I scored around 80%. In general the questions are somewhat similar to the exam, but I have the impression that several of the real exam's questions are easy to answer if you just think about how to do the solution from your own experience.

Doing the SCBCD is a good preparation for SCEA, because it helps to get a feeling for the details of EJB in general and the EJB lifecycle in particular.

At last thanks to the JavaRanch certification forums that were a great help in the progress so far.

I want to ask you one question.how many months you require to prepare for SCEA-PART1 and how many hours you study every day?I also want to know how deeply you study books and what are you thinking about whizlabs version 6.01 how many questions have been asked from whizlabs 6.01 in exam?
thank you very much,

Hi Prashant,

the time that you need to invest into the preparation greatly depends on what you know already. If you are really focused and already have lots of experience (e.g. if you develop and design EJB applications for a living), maybe some days. It personally took me about a month, with the last week of focused reading about 2-3 hours a day. It's a lot of stuff, but in fact, it does not get that deep. SCWCD was much harder to prepare for me, because it is very detailed.

To answer how many questions from the Whizlabs were asked in the real exam: I think about none. That actually doesn't matter because it gives you a feeling for the real exam and the questions are a bit harder, because you often don't get the number of correct answers. Although sometimes I was not really happy with the solution and explanation the test gave me, it motivated me to look further into the literature.

HTH
