Can you elaborate on your background, especially in developing J2EE apps?

Admitting you need coaching tells me that you may not be ready for this test yet. I am not trying to discourage you, but you need real experience gained by designing and architecting J2EE projects to pass this exam. Although you may get certified with some "tutoring", I strongly recommend that you read, learn, experiement and get ready for the test the right way.

I completely agree with Ajith !!! Kindly don't do a certification just for the sake of it ..do it when you need it !!!

Unfortunately that's the trend now. People with less or no experience in any kind of design/architecture are taking SCEA. Probably people are taking this exam because their co-workers took it, company paid for the fee or just for a promotion.

What I feel is SCEA losing it's real value very rapidly. When I passed SCJP in 99, it's kind of symbol that you know Java basics very well. Now SCJP has less value compare to Microsoft certifications. I believe in the next 2-3 years, you see more people SCEA certifications on their resumes who knows nothing but questions in Cade and Allen book.

Also .. as I hear that partII assignment are same/similar for all!! If that is the case ... after some months .... you might see whizlabs sceaII where they will give soultions for some $s.People will buy it and tweak here and there and then get certified!!!

I think that Sun should change the assignments that they give to the part II assignments , so the real knowledge is tested. After all they are taking 250$ for the test

That's true. The assignment is same for all applicants. However Sun Microsystems cannot change the assignment for every year. There is lot of process to create a certification in SUN. It's lot of effort to create and maintain a course for certification. The $450 we pay for the entire certification is drop in the bucket if you compare the actual cost of the test. Let's say they are paying a contractor 100$ per hour (which is typical in Sun Microsystems) to review the assignment. It takes minumum 2 hours to review the assignment. On top of that SUN has to pay the fee for the computer center where you took the test.

The real benefit of creating certifications is promoting technology. If you get certified in JEE or .NET you will look for jobs in those technology areas. That triggers more value for the underlying software platform than certification itself.

Thats the point in question!! the point of discussion was value of SCEA.It happens to be the highest certification that SUN can provide!! You dont need any other certification to appear for this!! Dont you think a bit of personalization adds to the value of the exam.

Now, I really do not agree to the logic that it is not possible to maintain a pool of assignments (may be 50 or so!!).A assignments can be of the same difficulty level and contractors who reviews will be expected to do it in 2 hrs.

And FYI ..if my maths is correct it is the total cost of certification is not $450 its $550.

WoW!! !! It must be a great experience working there!!!
