What application server and development environment do you suggest I use in preparation for SCEA exams?

I only passed phase 1, so take my opinion at face value.

I.M.H.O. The SCEA is about knowing patterns, and what java technology is best/worst/correct/legal for some given scenario. You don't actually need an app server. Coding java is low on the priority of the exam.

OPPS forgot communications. a major part of being an architect is communicating what you want done to developers and business people. Meaning there is some UML and businss scenario.

All the exams are about knowing the specification.
I passed my Business Component Developer and WebServices developer without having ever authored an EJB or web service.
