Do we really need to ask user to select the seats.

Suppose, user X need to select a seat on Segment A in Flight B.

System shows him 80 seats, X thinks a lot and after 5 minutes (say session time out is 10 minutes) he selects seat 3 on Row 20.

In the mean time user Y starts his session after X started and selects the same seat before X.

To avoid this type of problem we can not block all the 80 seats showed to user X until he selects one.

Or, just show the same page to X with current available seats by putting a Sorry.

What is the best solution; give me some hints where I can get more info on this kind of issues.

In real life you would block nothing.

The seats are reserved only at the moment of payment (I aways buy my flights via Web).

If the desired seat is taken, then the system offers you to select a new seat.

In assignment also we can not block any thing, so is it the best option to show a mssage to the user 'That seat is already booked' and provide the current available seats info to select a new seat.
