What does ejbPassivate really do in Entity bean? The data has been written to DB by the time this method executes. Does this method really serializes something to disk?

Well, I guess you can still have resources (not necessarily data) which can be serialised in a secondary storage, and retrieved at later stage when the bean is activated.
