Hi

First I would like to thank to JavaRanchers for help I found on this forum.

To prepare for exam I used:

- Cade's book
- IBM Java certification success, Part 4: SCEA
- Head First for Design Patterns
- Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software (GoF)
- Head First EJB
- Mastering Enterprise JavaBeans
- UML Distilled
- Sun's tutorial about i18n
- Whizlabs SCEA simulator

On Whizlabs simulator I had around 70%, average but never had more than ca. 25 minutes for one test. It was very useful and even if it has some questions about EJB 2.0 (not on exam) and few wrong answers... but I am satisfied with it because it has questions that are writen in almost the same style as those on real exam...

Congrats Amir!

Which EJB version is used in the first part of exam?
When the new exam version will be launched?
How many time did you spend for the first part of exam?
Do you have any previous experience with the sections covered in the exam?

Thanks in advanced!

Thanks in advance.

I passed SCEA p1 a month ago, 91%. HF Design Pattern is good enough. But if you still have questions about some patterns, or you think some patterns were described too brief (like those two-page-patterns at the end), GoF is a good reference book.

Thank you all!

I agree with Jay Yan... HF Design Patterns is good book but for some patterns one should read also GoF to get better picture...

I am affraid that I can't answer to question how many hours one should prepare for SCEA Part I... It depends on your knowledge, experience... but with more than 3 years experience in Java (EJB, JSP/Servlets, design patterns...) and 5 hours a day one should prepare in one or two weeks I guess.

Personally I think the Cade study guide is an excellent summary for the design patterns. I read the GoF book a couple of years back and started to read the first pages last month before I went to SCEA #1 - I hated every page.

Once you have some experience you will know the patterns anyway - you just need to learn the names and Cade is good enough for that.
