I just checked my email, and the marks are in!

It's interesting that they have set the passing score for the Sun Certified Enterprise Architect exam at 57%. That's on the lower end of the range, so I'm guessing the scores overall were actually quite low.

To be honest, I never thought in a million years the scores would be sent out on time, especially on a Thanksgiving holiday weekend, but they are. I take back all of the cynical comments I said about probably having to wait until the new year to get the results.

So, it looks like Part II is a pdf they will email to me? That seems dangerous if you ask me. People cheat enough, with websites like [ ... ] and stuff, without having the ease of just getting a copy of the questions on a pdf file in advance.

So, in 8 hours I'll have the pdf? Should be interesting.

I'm quite happy with the 72%. There were ALOT of questions, and by the end, I wasn't even reading them thoroughly. I mean, four hours is a long time. Plus, I didn't have a huge exposure to JPA and EJB 3.0 when I wrote, and there were alot of questions on that topic.

Well, it certainly is a good feeling going into the US Thanksgiving holiday weekend, even if I am a Canadian who doesn't celebrate it.

Dear Cameron W McKenzie,

Congratulations! You passed the SCEA Part 1 Beta exam. Passing score is 57%, your score is 72%. We will be sending a separate email containing your Part 2 assignment (which is a PDF file), complete with instructions, within the next 8 hours. If you do not receive the second email containing the assignment within the next 8 hours, please notify us at SunBeta@prometric.com. Thank you.

[ UD: removed mention of cheating site ]

***Heh...That website's not a cheating site. It actually my site, and it really works hard to get people to learn the fundamentals - just has a cute name, which I have since 'rebranded' due to that very misconception. No hard feelings.

83%.

I wonder if they are going to break down the percent in each area. That would be useful for determining which areas each tester should learn more about.

Adam, exactly my thoughts. I think whoever took the exam and went through the epic 4 hour challenge all deserve a round of applause.

Great job everybody. For those who were not able to clear, I dont think it reflects badly on your skills / expertise. There were many areas that was not 'advertised' as part of the exam (for exp SOA / JSF) but it did come up in the question set. Plus, as Cameron mentioned that the passing percentage is set too low which means many of us did not get the correct answers. Think of this as a leg-up when the real exam comes in. It will be smooth sailing for that one.

I did not give my passing % when I posted earlier. It is solid 71% . Frankly speaking, I am just glad that this is over. I have got no idea what to expect in PArt II. I am really hoping that it will not take up a lot of time which is something I dont have. Anyways, a big sigh of relief going into the long weekend.

Everybody else -

Hi .
Passed with 77 % ... Extremely happy. But now I should try to get my hands on some UML books really quick because I did not bother too much with UML thanks to Cameron's post .

So it looks like I will do my first assignment based Sun Certification(already passed SCJP , SCWCD and SCBCD).
Congratulations to everybody that passed and special thank you to Cameron.

I passed SCEA 5 part 1 beta with 78%.

I was really fried after taking the SCEA 5 beta. I read 6 chapters from Core JSF the week before, but that didn't prepare me for the questions concerning the cost of JSP vs. JSP + JSL vs. JSF with respect to development cost vs. non-programmer developers. I've only barely written a few JSP apps and have never even run any sample JSF apps. I spent too much time on each of those scenarios and ran out of time when I still had 12 questions remaining.

In June, I purchased vouchers for SCBCD 5 and SCEA 1.4, thinking I'd eventually take both, and I wanted to get in on the free retake deal. Yesterday, I decided to get the SCEA 1.4 over with (since I paid for it after all), and scored 89%. I figured I'd be doing an SCEA assignment in December, whether it was with the old technologies or with the new -- I guess now, it'll be with the new. For both old and new SCEA, I studied with Whizlabs, Cade and Roberts, Head First EJB, O'Reilly JMS, Core JSF, and O'Reilly EJB 3.

It will be quite a challenge to fit 40-60 hours in in the next 3 weeks. I guess SCBCD 5 will have to wait until 2008.

Congratulations to all who passed!
