The original beta annoucement had a deadline of December 26th for part 2 and 3 of the beta exam. The result mail (I did pass :-) now has a deadline of December 12. Thats a 2 week reduction on a 5 week period which was already tight to reserve enough time.

Anyone any info where this is coming from?

I have send a reply to the email I received but I doubt there will be a reply before the weekend.

Yup, we are Sun's unwanted children.

The deadline is tight, tight, tight, there's no doubt about that. I have to admit to choking on my Tim Horton's coffee when I saw the deadline for Part II.

I guess Sun is just anxious to move the whole thing out of Beta and into production, which is a good thing.

Remember, this was a free beta, and Sun is investing alot of money into it. On their end, it's probably costing a thousand bucks per person, after reserving the prometric rooms for 4 hours a person, having the exams marked, having us go through partI and partII, and all the other stuff that goes with it.

It's a tight timeline, but we certainly can't complain. It's their money, so it's their rules.

I will say that on the real SCEA, you put your heart and soul into going after the highest marks possible. For me, I'll probably only have time to put together a first draft, very rough deliverable. The goal will be completion, as opposed to perfection.

It's certainly a good challenge, that's for sure.

My main problem is the change in deadline this late in the game. If I had known the duration was 3 weeks instead of the expected 5 I would have taken this into account in my planning.

I would also like to know what happens if I don't complete the assignment, is my part 1 then worthless or can I still do the official part 2 and 3?

I think this is an important question too. Does passing Part I of the beta qualify as having passed Part I if we want to attempt Part II at a later date (ie, we fail it on this submission)?

The note on the email with the assignment is partly alluding to that. It goes somethinhg like "if you THINK you will not be able to finsh by the deadline, then dont start". But it falls short of saying that it can be taken at a later date. I think it makes sense to be part of the Beta, and cannot be carried over, but I would love to be wrong.

Such is my hope (I will, obviously, have the assignment in by the 12th), but... you know what they say about those who assume...
