Hi guys,
I've made the essay exam this morning.
8 essay question (not 4, I think because is a beta exam)

You can do the essay exam without any stress, is simple, the questions are clear and brief. Questions about non functional requirements, persistence strategy, ejb used, if happen x where you have to make a refactoring and so on.

I really think that anyone can pass the essay exam, so don't stress yourself ;-)

The report say that we will have a result no after the 15th February :-S, very long time, I hope it will be more short.

Good luck!

Considering how much we paid, you'd figure we could expect our results a little bit faster.

Thanks for the feedback on Part III. I'm much less worried now.

This part comes from the assignment e-mail:
"To register for the Sun Certified EnterpriseArchitect for the Java Platform, EnterpriseEdition 5 Essay beta exam, exam number: 311-062, you may register online at www.prometric.com/Sun/default.htm, and follow the prompts."
So the number is 311-062. I registered for it and I fond that it is 02:15 [hh:mm]

When I registered at Prometric, it showed 2 hours 15 minutes, and the confirmation email shows the same.

Just completed my Part 3 Beta today. Overall it is good except that the fire alarm went off (testing) during the exam about 15 minutes and it is quite annoying. The clock is still ticking while the alarm went off!

Two hours is just enough for me.....I have less than 15 minutes to go back and check each question. No surprises. I think if you just answer every questions based on your solution in Part 2, it should be quite easy.

After the exam, the test centre will give you a printout (Examination Score Report) which says:

"You will be notified of your final grade via email by February 15, 2008".

Now I just have to sit tight and wait! I am quite happy to complete three parts before Christmas.

Is part 3 exam questions based on the project you do and their design decisions or based on general architect knowledge on J2EE which we have to write as essay.. There is no info on the subject of Part 3?

the questions of the essay exam are about design/decisions/non-functional-requirements for a general enterprise application, but your answers must be related to your assignment submission of course

May be I wrong but I read that it took 15 minues for some people to complete this part.
Well I've finished 10 secs before last second and I'm not glad at all what I wrote. One reason is I prefer to talk than write especially if I've to write in English, second my case was quite easy and many choices were so obvious especially if you are developing enterprise software for many years that it was diffcult to explain why have not you choosen other solutions
But it's a role of architect, I know

Arek,
I know what you mean - I did Part III this morning and the time flew by. I finished with 6 seconds left on the clock.

Writing isn't a problem with me. The trick is deciding how much detail to put in your answers. Too much and you spend 45 minutes on one question (yeah, I did that on the first question) then feel rushed trying to do justice to the other ones.

If you did the work, they aren't tough questions - it's just hard knowing when to stop answering some of them.

I think overall part 3 is underestimated and proably deserves more attention. I think this is a great time to go into a lot of detials and explain things which you would not typically put into an arch diagram. Like others mentioned, time really files when you get into the 'typing' mode so a little bit of self-check is necessary. Not spending more than 15 minutes and keeping some time for review at the end is important.

Took the Part 3 exam today.
I had a set my own set of complaints about this part :-)
1) Copy - Paste did not work. IF you have just noted down your thoughts and wanted to move around your points in the comments section, it allowed you to cut the text , but not paste it! :-)
2) Time was too short. was it just me? I felt I needed another 30 min to just go through what i have written and format it for the better.
3) I'm kinda scared that I didnt end the test myself. I just reviewing the first answer and the test kicked me out.
Does this mean it has taken in all my answers till the moment? Or is it discarding any changes that I made on the last question?
I'm personally not very hopeful. But what the heck it is free... let me wait and see if I passed by some miracle :-)

Dheepak,
I forgot about the cut&paste issue - I noticed it early on and just spent the rest of the time trying to avoid needing it. I did wind up re-typing a few sentences here and there, but in I got used to it pretty fast.

I suspect it slowed me down, but it also forced me to think about what I wanted to say before I typed it all in - which works for me a bit because I'm not a touch typist. <embarrassed grin>

I finished the part III some days ago, and I'm agree with all of you... its a large test... 8 answers with a questions like: "describe yourself"... (this could take me a week or just a few seconds!)

I hope they will not pay attention in my English skills, but let me say... if you have other people in the same room its annoying when somebody says: "shhh, your keyboard don't let me concentrate!"... oh damn!, how can I type that huge answers without any keyboard noice!!!

Wrote the exam yesterday.

The rest is wait for result .

2:15 hrs. for 8 questions is quite tight. I'm writing/checking until the last minute, and I couldn't end the exam myself.
