Part2: Managing state for both web and GUI client  RSS feed

Hi All,

I am just starting the part II of SCEA. Having considered the usecases, I would like to avoid using stateful session bean to manage the state for both the Web and Gui client as i believe this application does not warrant such a high performance overhead, but although i can use HttpSession for web client, is there an equivalent for the Swing app?

Also, is it posible to have a deployment descriptor for swing apps so that i can configure role based security? What i mean is with J2ee web apps we can configure login in web.xml and secure resources against roles which would be subseqently be mapped to security groups on the app server.

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Welcome to JavaRanch and this forum. One of the few site rules we have is the JavaRanch official policy on registered names. That policy requires the display name to have both a first and last name, and to appear to be a legitimate name (so you don't have to use your real name if you really don't want to). Please change your display name to meet these requirements. You can change your display name here.

In addition, some forums have their own specific rules. This is especially true with the certification forums, where Sun have made specific requests of us. The rules for this forum are listed in the JavaRanch SCEA FAQ. In particular, you need to be aware of the following rule:
  • What is the policy on posting questions I saw on the exam / details of how to do the assignment?

  • You may not describe or talk about the questions you saw on any of the Sun exams - see the JavaRanch Policy on Real Questions for further details. (

For questions / discussions on the assignment, in general we will allow discussion where members are trying to understand the domain model and/or terms used in the assignment. We will also allow questions about which tools to use.

But we will not allow discussion on a solution to the assignment (or a part of the assignment) itself.

Refer to the thread "IMPORTANT - Position on real assignment (Part 2) questions" for more information.( I have closed this topic as I believe it is outside the rules listed.

    Regards, Andrew
