Hhrrmmppff,

Discontinuation comes quite soon .
I am currently working on part II, does this now mean that I either have to buy my voucher for part III now or stop working and switch over to SCEA5 part I again?
I feel that sun could've given us some more time.

Thanks,
Marcel

I suppose I'd agree that it was awfully short notice that they're discontinuing the original SCEA save that it's so sorely outdated. It'd good to see, though, that they're going to push folks onto the new path, while allowing those in process to finish working on the current.

After all, if you can't finish the Part II project in 10 months, the expiration is the least of your worries.

"Discontinued" really means that people can no longer take the exams, right?

From what I've seen, people can still boast SCEA J2EE Certified, so long as they specify that J2EE was the version of the exam that they took.

The SCEA is really, IMHO, the best cert to have, and will look great on a resume no matter what version the professional is touting.

Such is my understanding of the situation as well - Sun moved away, a while ago, from 'expiring' certifications. So long as you don't lead someone to believe that it's a different version than the credential you have, it remains valid.

I am planning to appear in part-3 by Feb 20th and normally it takes a month for result to come out. My concern is that in case, I fail in part - 2/3 then how can I take part-2 and 3 again, as last date for buying the voucher is Feb 29th. Please suggest.

Regards,
Praveen

Another question based on Sun's discontinued SCEA policy.

If I buy Part 1 now...would I be able to buy part 2& 3 after Feb 29th?

Thanks

Pav,

The original posting / the Sun site states that you will not be able purchase part 2 or 3 after February 29th. This is irrespective of your status with part 1.

My personal opinion at the moment is:
  • if you think it will take more than a 3 weeks to prepare for and take the part I exam, then hold off and go for the SCEA 5 package (part I, II, and III).
  • if you are confident that you can pass the old SCEA part I prior to Feb 29, then plan to do so, and then purchase parts II and III prior to the Feb 29 deadline.

  • Regards, Andrew

Just called Sun to asked the above question. Told them to reply me by an email so that I have something written. Here's the email reply..

This means you will have to call us to purchase parts 2 and 3.

    Hi Pavan,

I already have the voucher for part1, but I think I will not be able to take it until Feb 29.
So, according to the response you received from Sun, can I take part1 after Feb 29 and then purchase the voucher for the other parts?

    Thank you.

    Best Regards,
    Leandro

Yes, you can take Part 1 after Feb 29. But mind you you have to take all the exams ie Part 1, 2 & 3 before Dec 31 to get certified.

    Good luck

    Hi Pav,

Could you please pass on the Sun's contact details...

Are you sure we would be able to buy vouchers for part 2,3 even after Feb 29...incase if we fail...would we be able to buy resubmission voucher?

I have other doubts...like how many upgrade exams already SCEA guys have to give?...Is it one upgrade exam for all the three parts or one upgrade exam each for all the three parts of the old exam...

    Ranchers please reply...

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hello friends,

I already have passed part1 of the exam on Jan 08, 2008.
I would line to know what is the exam deadline for me before which I will have to pass the remaining parts, so that I dont have to repeat part-1 again.
(w.r.t. Sun will discontinue the exam CX-310-051)

    Thanks
    Rahul.

    Hi all,

A quick question about SCEA version 1!

I have passed part 1, am nearly finished part 2 and have provisionally booked part 3 for a date in mid March.

I can't remember how I paid for part two of the exam. So if I was able to download the assignment from http://www.certmanager.net/sun_assignment/assignment.html does this mean I had purchased part 2 or is the voucher for part 2 only requested when the assignment is uploaded?

I need to know if I need to purchase another voucher as after Feb 29th I won't be able to get them anymore.

    Thanks,
    Ian

    Kevin,

Here's the Sun training number I called; after talking I told her to mail me what she told me as I need to have something in writing. She gracefully agreed and sent me the mail I posted.

    Sun training - (800) 422-8020

Please post the reply you get.

hi all, i have completed part I successfully. but i am still not clear about the discontinuation issues.. i have even tried to email sun. in short this is what i get
"The 310-300R assignment resubmission will be available for purchase until December 31, 2008, if you should fail to pass the assignment the first time"

    2 concerns
    1) i have already purchased part II, must i really really purchase part III by feb 29, 2008 ?
    2) if i fail part II and part III after 29, 2008, can i purchase again?

or will purchasing 310-300R cover part II and part III ?
