Hi all,

I want to prepare the SCEA 5 certification but I can't find in this forum any recommendation of books to do it.

Do you know what are the best books to cover all the topics for the SCEA 5 part 1 exam? Can I use the same books commented in this forum for the previous version of SCEA and what other books can complete the topics for the new version?

I am planning to do the part 1 exam on 05/2008.

Thanks in advance.
Ral.

You don't want to use the books for the previous version of the exam. Fortunately, Sun posted a list of the books they recommend for SCEA 5. I posted that list to the form a while ago, here: http://www.coderanch.com/t/155965/java-Architect-SCEA/certification/FREE-SCEA-Beta-Certification-Exam

As I've mentioned before, on that list, you'll note an EJB3 book recommended by Sun. That book is indeed well worth reading, but I would also add Java Persistence with Hibernate (Bauer/King) to your reading list, as it goes into more of the theory of ORM and why certain choices were made in JPA. You might also want to add Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture (Fowler).

You can find reviews of some of the books on my blog.

Hi,

I found the Sun books list to study the SCEA 5 but I think there are a lot of books there. Do you think it coulb be enough reading some of them? Which books of the list do you think are mandatory to pass the SCEA 5? At least, which do you think are necessary to pass first the Part I?

I don't want to buy all these books (there are more than 10 books in this list) and I don't have so many time to study more than 10 books containing more than 500 pages.

Thanks in advance.
Ral.

Just click on the link in my message above, and in the resulting page, scroll down to where I posted the list of books. The reason why I originally posted that list is because the original url where Sun posted that list was no longer available.

I'm working on an SCEA 5 Guide. It should be done by the end of summer.

Hi David,

Was the list that you mentioned is for the SCEA5 Beta exam or the Main Exam itself?

Please let me know ASAP. I've also started preparation seriously and am reading the old book by Mark Cade.

Thanks in advance.
