Hi all,
I have 2.5 yrs of industry experience in java/j2ee I have never work on EE5. I want to work on new technologies like EJB3,spring or hibernate but with most of the oraganisation still working on J2ee there is not much scope to do that, so would like to know whether SCEA certification would be a right choice ? as doing a specific technology(EJB 3.0) related certification is not helpful as I am not sure if in near future i will get a chance to work on EJB 3.0. Please suggest If I can do SCEA.

Thanks,
Lalit

First of all if you are going for SCEA5 exam you need to know EJB3.0
EJB3.0 is main part of SCEA5 exam.
According to me learning EJB3.0 before SCEA5 will make your path for SCEA5 exam quit easy.
Should you go for EJB3.0 certification or not is up to you.
In any case you should know EJB3.0 for SCEA5 exam.

So, you're asking if you should learn new concepts that will become very important in the industry in the near future, or if you should stick with the current technologies that will become less desired in the near future?

If you knew everything about how spacecrafts were made in 2050, don't you think that would make you a better aerospace engineer today? Don't you think it'd be more exciting?

Obviously you need to know about the technologies you are currently working on, but have a good knowledge of what is to come, and how the industry is changing, can only make you a much more valuable resource to any company with which you work.

I think that you need learn about EJB3, JPA, JSF, Servlet and JSP, and much more thinks...it's easy !
But specially, you need have experience of project, because in SCEA exam, you will have that take decisions about design, security, scalability and others subjects that only your experience can to answer.

When I did the first exam, I had 6 years of experience in J2EE projects.

So at my experience(2.5 yrs) is it the correct time to try for SCEA. In the mean time I will learn EJB 3.0 and JSF and till I complete my certification I think my experience will be 3+ yrs. Please suggest...

Hi,

The SCEA 5 exam test the architectural aspects of the Java EE technologies. It will not test your programming skills. You must have very sound understanding of different Java EE technologies like Servlet, JSP, EJB , JMS, Connectors. When and where to use these technologies. Pros and Cons of usages of it. Also , the exam test the knowledge about the design patterns.

Although You are using old version of Java EE , you should not have any problem to grasp the new concepts at higher level. The major difference in EJBs and the new JSF. But, I think no syntax level knowledge is required for this exam.

The Part II is mainly test your architectural skills.

Thanks
