Howdy SCMAD Campers!
I just wanted to add a bit to Kathy's suggestions for studying. At this point there is no one book that will prepare you, but there are several books that each have strong points:
Core J2ME by Muchow: This is a great introductory book. If you are new to J2ME this is a great place to start. It does NOT cover the current specs, but it will give you a good foundation.
Wireless Java: Developing with J2ME by Knudson: This is an OK book, its strong point is that it does cover the new specs. This book doesn't go deeply enough into the topics covered on the exam.
Enterprise J2ME: Developing Mobile Java Applications by our very own Michael Yaun: This is a great book! This book was not written as a study guide for the SCMAD, so its topics don't overlap perfectly with the exam's topics. In those areas of overlap, Michael does a thorough and in-depth job, as he does throughout the book.
Read the Specs!!! Study the APIs!!!
Once again, the purpose of the free beta is for Sun to test the quality of the individual questions against experienced programmers. It's not really meant as a freebie for newcomers, but of course newcomers are welcome to participate. If you are new to J2ME, the truth is that the ideal exam study materials don't exist yet . But if you are diligent you can prepare with the materials available.
Use the Wireless toolkit !!!
The toolkit runs on PCs, not officially on Macs yet, but for you fellow Mac fiends out there, it will run under Virtual PC on the Mac. (Although it IS slow, get lots of memory!)
So, no whining you guys
Let's all keep putting up good links, and posting whatever study aids we have!
(J2ME is really the most fun I've ever had using Java ).

"Welcome, and suggestions"
Suggestions huh? OK, I have one. Isn't it time for you to get a haircut?

That happened months ago
The picture in the book was taken during the "slightly past deadline, no time for anything phase of the EJB book".
