I survive the real exam this morning ;-)

Hello MIDlet's people
It's was really amazing: near 4h, about 169 questions!
Here my impressions:
- a lot, relly very very much question about Canvas and GameCanvas
(with question of the type: is this method abc() impl. in Canvas or
GameCanvas, etc...) i think about 25% of the exam
- also much q about GUI: List, Form, CustomItem... 20% of the exam
- JTWI, OTA, Networking & Security, about 20% of the exam
- CLDC in general and CLDC 1.0 vs CLDC 1.1, about 10% of the exam
- RMS very straightforward q, about 10% of the exam
- WMA was my surprise, i don't think "soo much" q about it, near 10%
... and the rest of 5% about MMAPI, also very straightforward
Read very carefully the questions, two question aren't right at all,
so i write in the comment my opinion and answerd the question so.
In Switzerland something was strange, because the day after I received the
voucher, i telephoned to Prometrics Switzerland, and the ONLY
free date was this morning, 5. February. I liked to learn more and
do the test later, but so was all very stressed, i hope i take it
Anybody is from CH and do this exam??

Here is the response to raje's question, i'll try (and catch :-) ) it
to response:
So good I can remember, i'll say 60-70% of the exam is code related.
The areas are variouse, from Canvas (with GameCanvas) to all
subclasses of Screen: TextBox, Alert, List, Form.
There is present not only Source Code, but also much of Descriptor (JAD) and Manifest Files Code is there.
A few Code Line in the topics RMS, WMA, MMAPI and CLDC.
Last but not least, Networking, there are more then a few question about Networking, Security & Permissions .

I took the exam this afternoon. I must agree with what was said above.
The breakdown of objectives, to me, seem very balanced (about 15 questions on each main abjective). Areas that I can remember were as follow:
Canvas / GameCanvas stuff (yeah, what methods are new, overridden)
Layers, Sprites, LayerManager
Midlet Provisioning and Lifecycle
JAD, manifest, mandatory attributes
Security
know ALL permissions, trusted vs untrusted
Networking and I/O
GCF, all connections
Push Registry
WMA
be prepared to deal with code modules
MMAPI and MIDP Media
Players, Managers, media controls (including video)
RMS
Comparators, Filters, open methods
Midlet UI
High level vs low level
CLDC
minimum stuff (volatile size, number of threads),
which classes are from J2SE, which are new,
TimerTasks and Timers
JWTI
Which specs (NOTE versions) are mandatory, etc.
The "code" questions like to use drag and drop to drop in missing code.
Be sure you use the WTK and run code (try things like including a main() or having System.exit().
Class hiearchy diagrams should be freebee for testers.

I preparing reading the specs (JTWI, CLDC, MIDP, MMAPI, WMA) and then reading the book of Jonathan Knudsen, Wireless Java, Development with J2ME, 2.ed

I think that someone starting from no knowledge of J2ME can be successful with this approach.
1) Read Wireless Java: Developing with J2ME, 2nd Ed, Knudsen (Chapters 1 thru 12).
2) As you read about each class (e.g., Push Registry), go to the specs and read the discussion about how the class really works (don't get wrapped up in the details of each method, focus on the "Description" section).
3) Find and read articles on MMAPI, Security, WMA, other non-MIDP stuff.
4) Follow up with the specs for those areas.
5) Run and try to modify every code example you come across.
6) Go through the specs again
7) Take exam
8) Party (no matter how well and bad you did on the exam)...include your family

I have a question.
As you mentioned before:

don't get wrapped up in the details of each method, focus on the "Description" section

So is there questions about the details of the methods? eg. the signature, or the aftermath of the methods? Do I need to understand each function clearly?

As Kathy had mention before, the exam didn't get too detailed in asking the order of the parameters of each method. I don't remember being stumped on the parameters at all. But, by understanding which methods do what and by working with all of the methods of each class with the WTK, you should be OK.
You MUST read and understand the DESCRIPTIONs in ALL MIDP chapters. The good new is that there is less than 10 pages of descriptions in most chapters.
