U want to do straight JDBC from a phone to a database.

Just wait. I dont know if this is even possible, ive never heard of it, and even if it is possible. I would strongly urge u dont use it, cause it wont be portable across phones.

ONLY HTTP and HTTPS are gaurenteed to be avaible on a phone. Datagrams, sockect connections, sms messaging, and any other from of IO is totaly option and up to the phone manufactures

You must only use Http based connections to do networks if you want 100% portablity.

I recomment you make a solution like this. Create a servlet that connection to use database, your j2me device will send a http recquest for the data, the servlet gets the request, quiers the DB, puts the data into your http repsonce (possible the body of the POST method), and sends it back to the phone.

There a 100% java and portable solution.

Hope that helps, cheers

Answer
No, not directly.

You may however use HTTP to talk to a proxy (which might be a Java Servlet or JSP, for instance), which in turn may use JDBC to interact with the database. MIDP supports HTTP via HttpConnection, an implementation of the J2ME CLDC Generic Connection framework.

Please refer to the MIDP specification for more information, available from:
java.sun.com/products/midp

But again we have a J2ME database which can be installed on a phone its called PointBase Micro and which i guess you have to access using some form of jdbc but i am yet to research on this
