Something can't die until it's truly lived.

All jokes aside, I think the issue is more that the Java ME field is still a very small one - there's not, at least in the US, the same kind of thrust towards Java on mobile devices that there is in other countries. Hopefully, this will change over time, but that might also come more as there are increasingly powerful devices which give customers ideas of other things they want to do with them.

Like Theodore said, mobile devices these days are more and more advanced and support more and more features. These will surely lead SCMAD to the stage where mobile devlopers have more interests in the exam. This is just a matter of time.

Hi,

J2ME is diffently growing, we are planning to implement mobile banking from Meridea which is J2ME based.

Citibank has already implemented it.
And I know some other banks are also in process.

regards
Ahmad

I don't think anyone doubts that the mobile space is growing - I think the question is the demand for certified programmers. I mean, there's not terribly much direction for it to go but up in the US, for instance...

And as I said earlier, the field is still very small. That's really what's keeping this forum quiet and giving the impression the SCMAD is dying.

It is meaningful how much J2ME has matured over the years,
now present in the majority of cellular phones and PDAs,
and how much it has still room to grow.
Take a look at jcp.org, there you may see lots of new specifications
being cooked up for J2ME based technology, including
for example digital TV.

But yes, the SCMAD certification much less sought than
for example the J2EE certification. Things take
time to take off. I also think J2ME is a more specialised and demanding
field of work than others, different from general-purpose
programming platforms.

Regards,
Eduardo

I'm out of town right now, and my access to the net is shaky, but I'll ping Sun and see if I can find any stats.
