Alfred, et al -
We're working hard to have the book available when the real test is available, in August or September.
In the meantime, we will be looking for various types of technical reviewers, for instance the batches of questions we're posting now serve two purposes:
1 - to help everybody studying for the beta
2 - some of these questions might get used in the book.
So the feedback we get helps us and (hopefully), everybody else.
We will periodically ask for reviewing help on this forum. Our intention is that it's a win-win. We get good reviews, and the reviewers get study materials ahead of time.

-Bert
p.s. Everyone who provides a significant amount of reviewing support gets a small amount of fame in the form of a credit in the book. If you look at the credits sections in the first two books you will find a fair number of now famous JavaRanchers listed !

Hi,

If have experienced very good certifications guides for SCJP(Philip Heller), and SCWCD (Hanumant Deshmukh) wich helped me a lot in understanding a lot of things , and improve tremendously the quality of my code in real projects.
For my part the purpose of prepraring a sun certification is the skills we get in preparing for it, thats why I have few questions:
Will this book be only exam oriented ? or will it be a Complete EJB prgramming guide? Will we found in it everything we suppose to know regranding EJB and their use in real projects, or just exams topics, mocks and tips? What is the level of knowledge of EJB technology assumed in the book?
Thanks and best regards.

Howdy,
The EJB book *is* a certification study guide for the exam, but it is ALSO a "learning EJB" book. It assumes that you are an experienced SCJP programmer, (probably certified), but it does not assume that you are very experienced in EJB. Fortunately, this EJB exam is based on the spec and covers much of what you need to know to actually develop enterprise javabeans, so if we built a "learning EJB" book and a "EJB cert study guide" as two separate books, they would be about 80% identical.
We *will* cover a lot of practical tips and tricks from the real-world, but we are very clear in the book when we are going outside of what is in the exam, so that while you are preparing for the exam you can skip those parts, but while you are learning EJB (or after the exam) you can come back to them.
The book is the second book in the new O'Reilly "Head First" series, so... it has graphics/pictures/illustrations on every single page. Should be about 650 pages. It won't teach any particular app server, although it will make references to some of them, but it *will* use the J2EE RI for all examples and exercises.
And yep, it will be out in September about the same time as the exam is released.
cheers,
Kathy

Looks like the book Im waiting for !
It has been a while since I was thinking that I should add more complete EJB knowledge and eventually a certification including EJB to my arsenal. I was thinking to take the SCEA (J2EE 1.4 , not released yet), than this certification came along with your book.
Very glad to hear that your book will respond to my expectations.
Thanks a lot !

Have you guys (Kathy and Bert) thought about having a review process of the chapters to the community, just like theServerSide.com does it?
for example, JDO and Struts books were released for review on this portal..
cheers
