From PAge # 156 of the spec
"The Bean Provider must not expose the get and set methods for container-managed relationship
fields or the persistent Collection classes that are used in container-managed relationships
through the remote interface of the bean."
Can some one explain why is this restriction required?

The reason is quite simple. CMRs are only allowed with local beans, thus it doesn't make sense to expose them to remote clients, as it will not work after all.
