I have posted a similar message to yourself. I've tried sending an email to Evelyn but her mail server is busy. I tried booking in England and got the same response as yourself.

Hi Ramon,
I guess the Prometric centres world-wide were given a inital notification of 400 registrations and probably they are not aware of the increased number i.e 600..may be Sun has still to notify them.Evelyn can throw more light into the whole scenario..

I am in a similar boat. I was scheduled to take the exam on Thursday (July 3) but received a voice mail Friday night from prometric indicating that I could no longer take the exam.
As of this morning, prometric is indicating that the number of test takers is at the 400 limit and have no knowledge of the beta being extended to 600. Someone at prometric is trying to get details and I am currently awaiting a call back. I have also sent an email to the address I received the voucher from originally.
If anyone finds out additional information, please reply!
Thanks

Same thing is happening in Portugal. I was supposed to take my exam tomorrow morning.
Looks like Sun messed up worldwide.
I bet Evelyn's inbox is pretty full by now...

I'm in Jacksonville, Florida and I just called Prometric and successfully changed my exam date to July 7, so it looks like the problem is not universal. I hope Sun/Prometric resolves the situation for you guys.

Howdy --
First off, I really apologize for all the frustration. The confusion between the prometric centers and what is *really* supposed to be happening really sucks
I don't have any info, though, because Sun is closed down for this entire week (they do a complete holiday shut-down for the whole week, so virtually everyone is on vacation. And I am not involved in any of the business or logistics of the exam -- I work for the cert group only as a contract developer. So, unfortunately, I can't help with this except to relay your questions to Evelyn and others, but I don't know if anyone will be able to answer any questions (for you OR me) until next week.
I don't know what else to say except that Sun's process will probably be 'ugraded' in the future to make it better for all concerned. The communication with the prometric centers doesn't seem to have worked the way it should. I know Evelyn was doing her best to get the right word to the right folks, so I'm not sure where all the confusion came in.
I don't know the exact numbers for vouchers; I just know that we need 400 exams to be taken.
Once again, I'm really very sorry about all this, and I wish I could do something besides try to make sure that the cert folks who can do something about this get the messages. But we might not know anything until next week, and I realize that this might be too late.
Wish I had better news.
There *will* be more Java exam betas coming in the future -- perhaps at least TWO before the end of December, maybe three, depending on the finalization of the J2EE (and related) specifications. Just what you wanted to hear... more fun betas to look forward to
cheers,
Kathy

Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the late response, I'm here!
As for the beta. I have closed registration (ONLY REGISTRATION) because I have reached 600 candidates.
I have told Prometric to get the word to their centers that the number is 600 and NOT 400.
If you are registered to take the exam this week, you shouldn't have any problems in taking the exam if you are already REGISTERED.
I recommend calling Prometric before heading out to take your exam. I have been sending out emails to candidates and some of them are bouncing back and I want to make sure you get the message. I will be posting a message here on JavaRanch.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Post here on JavaRanch and I will respond.
Thank you.
Evelyn

Whew, it's good to hear from you Evelyn. I was afraid Sun's "complete holiday shut-down" might have disconnected you from us beta-testers. We appreciate you (and Kathy, too!) keeping us posted and addressing our questions and concerns.

hi Evelyn
I am from Delhi, India.
I have got voucher on 20th of June.
And I was registered for 27th of June with NIIT, South Ext.II, Delhi a prometric center in my town.
but When I reached this prometric center to take the exam I came to know that this particular center is not authorized for conducting this beta exam. As they tried to download the paper but this exam was not available in their prometric site.
Then I planned to register with another prometric center in my city. But they told me that registrations are closed.
Today I got a mail and registration form from this prometric center that registration are again open. I have send them back this registar form for taking exam on 3rd of June, as they say before this date they will be not able to download the paper.
but now, from your this message it seem I will not able to take the exam.

Am I right? when you reached 600 registration.
Again it is not clear whether 600 registrations will be made or registrations will be made but only first 600 can take the exam.

Hello Evelyn,
you say you've reached 600 candidates and
"If you are registered to take the exam this week, you shouldn't have any problems in taking the exam if you are already REGISTERED."
I've registered for Monday the 7:th (in France)... Can I still come to the test centre and been refused to take the exam?
I just want to know. It seems that the rules are changing all the time. My interpretation of what you're saying is that
1) you have reached 600 candidates
2) therefore, it's no longer possible to register
3a) by this it follows, once register you can take the exam
3b) or are we back to first wins?
It's strange that something so simple ca be so confusing!
/Erik

All,
I moved the number from 400 to 600 to give those who were hesitant an opportunity to sign up and take the free EJB beta exam. It took alot of convincing on my part to get that number.
I have only closed the registration because I have all the people I need registered. The EXAM IS STILL ON until July 7th.
I am not sure why Prometric centers worldwide are informing candidates of the 400 number or not letting you take the exam. I have spoken to Prometrics home office and they are investigating why the worldwide office are stating this, it was clearly stated to the WW offices that the number is 600 and that only REGISTRAtION was closed.
As of today I only have 377 candidates who have taken the exam and you have until July 7th to take the beta. I will NOT extend the beta date.
If for some reason I reach 600 before Monday I will close the beta, I have never changed this supposedly rule. Again I moved 400 to 600 to give more candidates the opportunity to take a FREE EJB beta exam.
If you pass you will receive a certificate. Again results will probably be ready in late August, please do not send me emails inquiring about results. I will send you an email when the scores are available in certmanger.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
Evelyn

Evelyn,
just one question from my part on this subject:
1) "As for the beta. I have closed registration (ONLY REGISTRATION) because I have reached 600 candidates."
That this mean that 600 people have registerd at a prometric centre or that you have send out 600 vouchers?
For me it's not clear what ONLY REGISTRATION means. ;(
Thanks
Erik

But I know the rules of this game, wanted just to be sure where I stand right know.
Thanks again

this is so confused.
I was rejected to register last Friday and this Monday, but today when I saw the javaranch post, I got registered and will take the exam on July 3rd.

Then what happened if someone registered but doesn't show up before or on July 7th, the count will not reach to 600 since the register is closed. I don't understand until today why sun still can't ensure all people can take test if they have been registered. Suppose on July 7th, the number reached to 6xx, but what's the difference SUN use 600 beta tester or 6xx testers. Really hope SUN don't refuse those xx testers, especially for those testers show up at test center but will be refused to give the test.

Same thing happened in Toronto, Canada.
On July 1, 18:00 EDT, I called 1-800-795-3926 prometric register center, the lady on the phone checked with her supervisor, and told me they still not got information of the extending to 600, and I am rejected to take the exam. (I already registered early last week)
Hope Evelyn can resolve this problem soon...

It still has not been fixed per Prometric as of 6pm Central, and I haven't had any responses from Evelyn since 9am Central time.
I think Sun and Prometric need to work on communicating between one another.

All,
I have sent out vouchers for a month. For some of you I sent you a voucher last week, it was a late request on your part, because requests for vouchers were closed like three weeks ago. You received a voucher because of last minute cancellation and I took your last minute urgent request to take this beta.
As for Prometric, I have communicated from the beginning all the numbers and facts for this beta. I am not sure why you are having problems with Prometric centers. I have communicated all problems to Prometrics main office directly and promptly (as soon as you had a problem with registration or exam). The exam is offered worldwide so maybe with time difference and locations, they are not communicating as fast as they should or can. I raised this issue once again with Prometric and they are verifying.
I have also been clear that I moved the 400 beta takers (actually taken exam) to 600. So I am not sure where the confusion is coming from. I have said from the beginning that once I had reached 400 beta testers (taken the actual exam) I would close the beta, but I moved the number to 600 (the same applies here, if I reach 600 beta takers I will close the beta).
As of today 406 have taken the beta exam, so this means that another 194 need to take the beta by July 7th to reach 600 beta testers (actually taken the exam). If I reach this number I will close the exam, this has always been stated to all beta takers.
Hope this helps.
Evelyn

Hi, Evelyn
Just now, 13:00pm EDT, July 2nd, I called Prometric center registration center(1-800-795-3926) again,
and they told me the last update they got
on Monday, is the limit is 400, and the registration is closed, and they didn't received anything about 600.... (I already register one week ago and was reject to take the exam yesterday)
Since I called from Toronto Canada, I verified their location, she told me it is Maryland, US, and this office is only office in US and Canada...
So what should I do???
