Hi guys,
For a long time the Availability information on HF book at amazon was that they had no availability date information and that you can preorder it and get it send to you when it's available. I just checked Amazon's site and found that the Availability information has been updated to "Usually ships within 3 to 5 weeks". Kathy has said in this forum somedays back that she expects Amazon to receive HF anytime soon which meant Amazon should have received the books already days ago.
What does this all mean? I'm now confused. Could anyone shed light on this?
Francis

Amazon NOW says 'ships in 24 hours'!!
For some reason, they just had a problem with it, but now it is all official and shipping! We have no idea why it took so long, but there it is FINALLY
Thanks for being patient...
cheers,
Kathy

I'll go buy it from Amazon then since I have some free gift certificate doing some test drive a while back. Bookpool is out of stock.

Thank you for writing it! I am very enthusiastic to get my hands on it!
Is it more of a guarantee if I purchase it directly from Oreilly's Web Site?
All the best,

Attention Amazon Shoppers!
The inner workings of Amazon are a mystery, but my observation is that once the first shipment arrives they can go in and out of stock within a day. What I think this means is that now that it's shipping, its status will change very quickly, but in general it will ship quickly. I think it would be common to check Amazon at 3pm and see "ships in 3 weeks" and to check again at 5pm and see "ships in 24 hours".

Mine actually says Delivery estimate Dec 3, 2003 - Dec 19, 2003.
I think by then even brick and morter bookstores will have it on display.

That's one month ahead... Why does it take so long, Anselm? I think they also have to wait from O'Reilly to print more copies. By the way, when do u plan to take the exam, Anselm? U just passed the SCWCD exam, didn't you? That's cool. We are definitely running on Sun Cert Track...

Mr. Koko:
Its difficult to plan when the main material you need for preparation is not within reach. I probably will put a date after I must have gotten the book. Right now my mind is so focussed on the book and its supposed simplification of EJB that I started having difficulty understanding other books on the same topic.

My order says (amazon): Delivery estimate: Nov 8, 2003 - Nov 12, 2003. I ordered it on Nov 1. Hope this date doesn't change.....

Hi all,
I pre-ordered mine on Amazon.CO.UK. about 4 days ago.
Status is now
'Delivery estimate: Nov 12, 2003 - Nov 14, 2003 '
Guess the EU stock has less problems
I'm looking forward to getting started on this certification as it's been over 18 months since I got SCWCD.
Over 11 months of that tiem has been working with EJB's so I'm feeling quite positive about it.

The status will change! Hang in there! Don't be fooled by the dates you are seeing (3-5 weeks, December, etc.). They will have them back in stock within a day. This is just something Amazon goes through, but O'Reilly is working with them to make certain that the books are available. They did get more orders than they had anticipated, but they claim they can correct it immediately.
Currently, the US Amazon shows 24 hours shipping again, so if you've pre-ordered, you should see your ship date change from its previous estimate to something like November 8th.
And apparently it *has* begun to appear on the shelves at some US bookstores. That is a surprise. We don't know what went wrong with Amazon, but apparently their initial order was not large enough to cover everything. But again, O'Reilly is working with them to make sure that they will never be more than 2 days behind. The 3-5 week estimate is just an automatic thing that goes up when they run out, even if they can replace it within a day. So just IGNORE the long dates.
However, it *is* possible that they *will* run out completely, before the next printing of the book, so if you are planning to get it, I would not wait much longer.
I know this is frustrating. I wish Bert and I had some control over that end of it -- but we're just the authors. The best we can do is keep alerting O'Reilly to Amazon's antics, and they in turn will yell at Amazon
cheers,
Kathy
