Dear Ms. Sierra:

I have bought your book entitled, "Head First EJB". First & foremost, thank you for writing it... I really appreciate it. It has enabled me to learn a lot about EJBs and what they are used for.

When I tried to compile AdviceClient.java, I had followed all of your instructions to a tea, and the AdviceClient.java file, still failed to compile... I posted the details of my implementation
to the SCBCD forum in Java Ranch (which you recommended in Head First EJB) and my post seems to have been ignored...

This is a link to it:

https://coderanch.com/t/158223/java-EJB-SCBCD/certification/Help-compiling-AdviceClient-java

In addition, I am very enthused to learn EJB, and wish to proceed further, but it seems unlikely if I can't even get through the first coding example... I understand that you must receive
a ton of e-mail, everyday, but I really need your help. I followed all of your instructions, and somehow somewhere something went wrong and I figure that by you looking at my post,
you'd know in a second what the problem was since you have written lots of EJB.

Thanks for writing such a great informative book.

All the best,

Greenhorn

hi
i'm getting the same 5 errors as you do when i try to compile AdviceClient.java
but i'm using windows xp.
i did
javac -classpath {$CLASSPATH}:AdviceAppClient.jar AdviceClient.java
the javac compiler seems to ignore the {$CLASSPATH} command.
i just started with the HF ejb book today though and dont know much about ejb.
i also added
package headfirst;
to my AdviceClient.java file although it is not there in the book but the errors are still there.
thanks in advance for some help

hey, guys!
Let me guess the reason of the problem. This is not EJB (or java) -related stuff. This is operation system related stuff.
Defining environment variables as $BLA-BLA this is Unix-style.
Also, division them with ":"
For *Windows* environment this will looks like:
"... -cp %CLASSPATH%;xxxx.jar;yyyy.jar ..."
1. use "%" from both sides of variable name
2. use ";" as delimiter for classpath parts.
I suppose Kathy is using some version Unix (probably Mac OS), so se wrote in Unix-style and successfully tested the examples.
Cheers
