Hello All,

Im currently preparing for SCBCD. Checked the EJB3.0 First Draft article. Huge changes are being made. Will having a 2.0 certification be of any use?

It seems I might need to un-learn and re-learn a lot of stuff.

Waiting for your valued comments!

regads,
Leena

I checked this discussion. Francis, may be I would have opposed you 5 months ago in this discussion but when I read the article today and given the fact that Im preparing for SCBCD, I did feel if Im wasting time and energy and money on the 2.0 exam. May be it is all about what you happen to read first.

It was a ready dissussion for me.

I gave SCJP2 and the next exam version came 2 months down the line. I had a coupon given by the company. I had to use it.

I confirmed a date for my SCWCD3.0 and the new exam was on the way again. But thankfully the changes were not too many and I went ahead with the exam.

So this time, reading about the EJB3.0 with heavy changes made me unsettled. Of course I can take the upgrade exam but it costs me more. If I take the next exam, its financially beneficial too. Regardless of how much SUN makes out of it.

I have taken a break and a certification will be helpful. If I would have been doing this for the sake of improving knowledge, may be I would have waited paying for a certification and carried out just the studies for the current version and work.

It was nice to know that Im still in a safe time duration to go ahead with the exam. Moving the discussion to another forum was something I found very 'unlike javaranch'. For the first time, I did not feel it justified enough to move the discussion out to another forum. It was a proper forum Francis posted in. I got to this discussion from a link mentioned in another post in this forum. If this was not the right forum, people like him and me would not come to this forum searching for an answer 5 months down the line.

Regards,
Leena

Not that the upgrade exams are costly. What I wanted to say was taking the 2.0 and then the upgrade for 3.0 will make me spend the money twice. Upgrade exams are not cheaper too. Ofcourse the technologies evolve and new versions come over. But if I can manage to get certified in what is coming next, it will be better.

Leena

I'd be also interested in hearing some comments on that topic.

It is going to take time before EJB 3.0 comes into use.

In addition, EJB 3.0 maybe no longer be on top of J2SE 1.4, it may be on Tiger. So, you should now think of whether you go for SCJP Tiger as well.

As I understand, 3.0 will be improved simplified version. Will be added some new things, but the idea will be still the same. So the learning materials could be the same and use should be certainly. Anyway 3.0 will be released only the summer 2005 and exam will be changed maybe half of year later.

Could you correct me if I'm wrong?

The idea yes, but the way of doing things will be quite different

So the learning materials could be the same and use should be certainly.
I don't think so. With the big storm happening in the EJB 3.0 spec, I think that 80% (if not more) of all mock exams and study material will have to be rewritten to fit the new spec accordingly.

Anyway 3.0 will be released only the summer 2005 and exam will be changed maybe half of year later.
You think that it 's only going to take 8 more month to complete the spec? You are very optimistic Actually, the EJB 3.0 spec will not come out until J2EE 1.5 comes out. The advertised target date is indeed at the end of summer 2005 but I guess it's gonna take longer. Add to this, the time to create the new exam, beta tests and all that stuff and this brings you to 2006. So you can safely take the SCBCD exam today...

I have decided to take the exam. And I would be very happy if EJB3.0 takes longer and longer.

Go ahead with the current exam, Leena... I also agree with the very very far future of EJB 3.0...

I can't beleive you just said that. Now I need to calm down with this tiny ad:
