Hello Gemini,
The fact that you had started reading HF makes you more reluctant to other materials I guess. Believe me or not, I had read the book by Ed Roman first and I found HFEJB to be too much on funnier side to be an EJB book. I kept HF in the drawer for 3/4 months. I tried reading it twice. Lots of my attention used to get drawn by the pictures and the fonts and all. When I got on reading and sticked to it, after the first chapter, I was comfortable with the book. It was my first HF book.
So may be its just 'starting trouble'.
Did you check the 'whole book' pdf available written by the EJB2 by Ed Roman? Scroll to the end of the page.
Its a great book indeed. Its freely available. May be you can start reading the book and if you find some concept a bit difficult, you can check in the HF only that portion at home - offline.
HTH
Regards,
Leena
