Home interface business methods are not specific to particular entity bean. wherras component interface business methods are related to particular instance of the bean.

Homebusiness methods are run in pooled state while component in ready state.

Hope it helps..

Just want to clarify this statement.

Is it mandetory to call home methods in pooled state.
What I am trying to say here is, will it be possible to call a home method by getting home handle through component reference->entitycontext->home handle ?

I need to clarify that if I call home method on a active bean then will it throw exception ?

If you use the home handle you are no longer referencing a specific bean.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
